# Ask an SLP: swallowing questions and published answers

Canonical: [https://followyourswallow.com/ask-an-slp](https://followyourswallow.com/ask-an-slp)

Start with published answers about food textures, IDDSI terms, and preparing for a swallowing-care visit. The answer finder is free. A separate, limited Q&A with a speech-language pathologist is planned and is not open yet.

## Find a published answer now

The on-page lookup searches existing reference answers and glossary definitions. Results include their sources and review status. It does not contact a clinician or generate personalized advice. Do not enter names, contact details, reports, or personal health information.

## Planned human SLP pilot

The idea is simple: help people understand everyday swallowing-care terms and prepare better questions for their own care team. An educational question might ask what a food-texture term means or where to find an official testing guide.

The email-only signup is an opening notification, not a question submission. No question is sent to an SLP by this page or its WebMCP lookup.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I ask an SLP a free question here?

You can search our existing educational answers for free now. A limited human Ask an SLP Q&A pilot is planned, but it is not accepting questions yet. You can sign up for an email if it opens.

### Who answers the questions in the answer finder?

The finder points to articles already published by Follow Your Swallow. It does not create a new answer or send your search to a clinician. Open an article to read its sources and review status.

### Can this service diagnose dysphagia or choose a food or drink level?

No. Published answers and the planned Q&A are general education. They cannot diagnose a swallowing problem, choose an IDDSI level, recommend exercises for an individual, or change medication instructions. Those decisions belong with the person's qualified care team.

### How quickly will an SLP reply?

There is no current reply service or promised turnaround. Joining the notification list does not submit a question or reserve a response. Availability and response limits will be explained if the pilot opens.

### What information does the opening notification form collect?

Only your email address and your interest in the planned Q&A. It does not ask for patient names, symptoms, medical records, photos, or videos. Do not put health information in the email field.

## Safety

General education only. Use only the food and drink levels prescribed by the person's qualified clinician. Test the actual serving before it is eaten or drunk.
