Follow Your Swallow exists because the same conversation kept happening at kitchen tables: a family holding discharge paperwork that says “IDDSI Level 4” and no practical idea what dinner looks like now. We built the resource we kept wishing we could leave behind.

Our clinical collaborator is a medical speech-language pathologist with a background in hospital and inpatient rehabilitation care, including instrumental swallowing assessments and caregiver education.

We respect our collaborator’s privacy. Clinical review status is shown on individual references; source checking and clinical sign-off are separate steps. An entry marked “SLP review in progress” has not yet received that sign-off.

Every product entry lists how it was verified: a manufacturer-published IDDSI label, a published study, or our own kitchen testing with the official IDDSI methods, along with the source and the date. When we can’t substantiate a claim yet, the entry says so plainly. Medication answers come only from the ISMP “Do Not Crush” list and FDA labeling, and every clinical page requires a separate clinical review before it is marked as reviewed.

Two things we will never do: recommend a diet level (that decision belongs to your own clinician, after a swallowing evaluation), or put safety-critical information behind a paywall.
