Common questions
What syringe do I need for the IDDSI flow test?
A 10 mL slip-tip syringe with a scale length of 61.5 mm — the style shown in official IDDSI materials. Syringe barrel lengths vary by manufacturer, and a different barrel gives wrong results. Measure the 0–10 mL scale; it should be 61.5 mm long.
The details
Pharmacies and online retailers sell suitable syringes inexpensively. Avoid catheter-tip and luer-lock styles with different barrel geometry.
Once you have the right syringe, our guided test times the 10 seconds for you and calculates the level from the milliliters remaining.
Remember: we never recommend a diet level. Serve only what matches the IDDSI level prescribed by your speech-language pathologist.
