Why
Namenda XR is on the ISMP “Do Not Crush” list as extended-release, and FDA labeling states the capsule should not be divided, chewed, or crushed. The label does allow opening the capsule and sprinkling the entire contents on applesauce, swallowed without chewing.
What to ask the pharmacist instead
Ask the pharmacist about the label-approved applesauce sprinkle method or the memantine oral solution as alternatives.
